Upama/Upith/Semolina Preparation

Ingredients

1 cup semolina/creame of wheat/ rava/soji, 1 chopped onion, ¼ inch ginger chopped, 1 tomato chopped, 1/2 cup green peas,4-5 curry leaves, 3-4 green chilies, 2 cups boiled water, salt and sugar to taste.

For tempering: 4-5 tbsp vegetable oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, 1tbsp urad dal/split black lentil.

Coriander leaves and fresh grated coconut and sev for garnishing.

How to make

  • Roast semolina/rava on medium heat till you get the smell of roasted semolina.
  • Keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan; add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, ginger followed by split black lentil.
  • Add green chilies and curry leaves.
  • Now add chopped onion and fry till onion turns pink or transparent.
  • put green peas.
  • Add chopped tomatoes.
  • Fry till tomato becomes tender enough.
  • Add water and salt, sugar to taste
  • Now put roasted rava/semolina.
  • Mix it well and cover up.
  • Cook till all water gets absorb.
  • Stir in between.
  • Switch of the heat
  • Garnish upama with coriander and coconut.
  • Serve hot with piece of lemon.
