Mugachi khichdi/Rice & Lentil Preparation

Ingredients

1cup rice, 1/4 cup spilt mung dal/green gram, 1/2 tbsp chilli pwd, pinch of termeric, 1/2 tbsp mustard and cumin seeds, 1 medium size tomato, 4-5 tbsp ghee/clarified butter, curry leaves, pinch of hing(asafoetida), 1-2 coriander pwd, 1 tbsp cumin pwd, two and half cup water, salt to taste.

How to make

  • Heat ghee in a pressure cooker and add mustard and cumin seeds.
  • Put hing followed by curry leaves and a pinch of termeric pwd when seeds start cracking.
  • Now add rice and mug dal, fry for few seconds.
  • Add choped tomato.
  • Add chilli pwd, coriander pwd, cumin pwd. Mix well.
  • Add water and salt.
  • Close the lid and pressure cook till 3 whistles.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and grated fresh coconut.
  • Serv hot with koshimbir (salad).
