Bhakri/Rural Maharashtrian Bread

Ingredients

Rice flour, salt to taste, warm water for kneading

How to make

  • In mixing bowl take rice flour and add salt.
  • Now start kneading the flour by gradually adding warm water.
  • Make soft dough.
  • Make balls of kneaded dough, one at each time.
  • Take rolling board and spread little rice flour to avoid sticking while making bhakari.
  • With the help of fingertips start patting kneaded flour in circular shape like a chapatti or tortilla.
  • Don’t pat to thin.
  • Turn on heat and place bhakari on tava/skillet.
  • Place the bhakari on tava in such a way that the side with no flour should get roasted first.
  • put little water on the surface with the help of clean cotton cloth.
  • Roast well.
  • Flip and roast other side too.
  • Now remove from the pan and hold bhakari in flame to roast the edges. Do not burn it.
  • Serve hot with butter or ghee/clarified butter on top and your choice of vegetables like Bharli vangi/stuffed eggplant, pithale, zunka, bharit, etc
  • Garlic-coconut chutney, raw onion would be great combination.
